Shortly families will be packing their bags for the annual family ski / half term holiday, and barring a rare freak of nature, it certainly looks like it should be a good week with great snow conditions. I say a great week, this also assumes you have selected the right resort and even more importantly, one of the better ski operators who will have the experience, location (ideally either ski in ski out or close to the slopes), and service quality to ensure your half term ski week runs smoothly.
I guess the first selection criteria should indeed be the resort, and the question here is pitching the resort against the families ski ability. If they are young and relatively inexperienced, you don't want to necessarily be picking the resort that offers the steepest and deepest runs. Scare them too early, and they probably won't want to ski ever again.
Once you have selected the resort, choose carefully the operator, ask them questions, starting with the facilities that they have at the chalet, what services and support they offer family ski groups, what they know about the slopes and how suitable they are for children, the ski school, and the ski lessons they would recommend, test basically whether they really are as ski family friendly as the website suggests.
And assuming you have done this, have a great ski half term holiday!!
